The entrepreneurial mindset became such a must for the future professionals that universities all around the world are working hard to create and provide the right ecosystem for their students to develop as entrepreneurs. Despite a growing amount of research on entrepreneurship education, the traditional approach that prevails is focused on the impact of academic programs in the creation of new ventures. Very few authors study initiatives that promote entrepreneurship within universities, such as business incubators and boot camps. Our work proposes how an entrepreneurship ecosystem could be designed within a university, presents the case of Tecnológico de Monterrey (ranked among the best universities for undergraduate entrepreneurship programs according to Princeton Ranking), and studies the relationship between students´ participation in this ecosystem and their intention to be entrepreneurs. Although academic courses are significantly related to intention to start a new venture before graduation and up to five years after graduation; other activities, such as talks with entrepreneurs and networking sessions, are only significantly related to intention to start a new venture before graduation. Finally, participating in entrepreneurship competitions and high-impact events (eg. boot camps and hackathons) do not relate significantly to the intention to start a new venture at neither point in time. We use these results to draw implications for practitioners and researchers both on entrepreneurial education best practices and the design of entrepreneurial ecosystems at a university level.
